Final Whistle Report (22/03/2008) 100% unbiased

Mar. 25th, 2008 | 04:55 am

Theodore Yap will have to wait another week for his first win as captain after Cerous drew 2-2  in a match which also saw him yellow carded for a malicious tackle and missing two penalties.
Confidence has been sky high going into this match with the oranges' previous match a 14-1 mauling of their helpless opponents. And clearly this match wasn't going to be any fairytale stuff as the newly appointed captain and vice-captain made big mistakes that cost the team a victory in regulation time.
Jeremy's early shot in the 22nd minute saw his effort tipped onto the crossbar which was the best effort in the first half for the oranges.
Patrick's first half opener for the opponents was the resultant of Theodore's moment of rashness with a two footed sliding tackle from the back that would have broken his opponents legs, However he got away with a yellow card. With the free kick on the edge of the penalty box, a sweetly struck free kick saw Patrick head home the first goal.
Just before half time, the quick feet of Joel Tan earned him a penalty which Theodore would have always stepped up to take. And statistics showed that he has never in his career missed a penalty before. However, lady luck wasn't on his side as he blasted it high and wide. Not a good way to go into half time.
Half time substitutions: Yi Jun for Lin Feng
                                           Jun Jie for Kok Tong
                                          Lufi for Akmal
                                          Hendrick for Jian Wei
Clearly a more attacking formation was presented in the second half and it was business as usual again. Cerous continued to pour forward in search of the equaliser and not long after, Lutfi with his predatory instincts pops up with the goal yet again.
Jun Jie and Joel continued to be a threat down the wing and had the opponents using rough house tactics against them. And time and again Theodore seemed to be seriously unhappy with the referee not producing any cards to protect his players and constantly ranting at the referee everytime his players gets the rough house treatment.
In the 67th minute, who else but the top scorer and talisman Joel Tan popped up with Cerous' second goal before having their play halted due to lightning.
7 minutes later, the players were seen back on the pitch with what would be a 20 minutes mud bath.
Substitution: Jeremy for Jian Wei
                        Alvin for Lin Feng
With this match being played in rolling substitutions, Jian Wei and Lin Feng was allowed back onto the pitch with him playing in a centre back role with the formation changed to a 5-4-1 to hold on to the slender lead. At 2-1, anything can happen.
82nd minute, the opposition frontman popped up with the goal after slack marking by Lin Feng with what would be a relatively unknown position to him at right back. However he was clearly not to blame with what was a good shot that Mahir palmed into the roof of the net that would go down as a blunder.
91st minute, a sending off for a second yellow card for their captain with the referee finally losing his patience with the tackles time and again made on Joel Tan and Theodore again clearly influencing the referee to produce a red card.
With this virtually the last attack of the game, Cerous poured every single player into the opposing box, however was unable to grasp a winner.

Penalty shoot-out:
This is the first time Cerous has ever played in a penalty shoot-out.
Mahir handed over the gloves to Alvin.
the penalty shoot out ended in a 3-2
theodore, yi jun and akmal missing their penalties.
Joel, Lutfi and Jian Wei converted their penalties.
Alvin saves one with the rest missed.

Cerous team in full (4-4-2):
Mahir, Ian Koh, Theodore Yap, Alvin, Jian Wei, Lin Feng, Joel Tan, Kok Tong, Akmal, Jeremy, Yantho.
Subs: Yi Jun, Lutfi, Hendrick
Referee: Clearly wasn't able to handle the game, was always influenced by the players.
Conditions: Wet to muddy to waterlogged. Wasn't the best environment for attractive, flowing football.
Cerous Man of The Match: Yantho. Was the most disciplined defensive player on the pitch. Saved his team on many occasions when the opponents launched a counter attack.
Best quote: When Theodore ranted at the referee for refusing a card, the referee said," you wanna be ref? i leave now."

The New Era

Mar. 21st, 2008 | 03:06 pm
location: media room at town park

With almost a quarter of the year gone, the plan to have a change of captaincy would have seen different reactions from many. However like every other, there would be its pros and cons.
And before naming the captaincy, we would like to anaylse the situation that is left in front of the squad ahead of Saturday's away trip to Siglap.
To change a captaincy midway through the season would somehow unsettle the squad with new regiments and new ideas being put into place. However, it could also be seen to some as a movement to carry the team forward.

CerousFC.com would like to wish the new captain Theodore Yap and the new vice captain Mahir all the best in the future starting on Saturday.
